Something New for Dinner

Another great ride at FlyWheel. I went to spin at 4:30 with an instructor named Douglas. Turns out he is one of my favorite instructors at Crunch! I am so happy he is also an instructor at FlyWheel. So even though my body was exhausted from yesterday, Dougie's energy kept me right on track. Hopefully they can get Kenneth over there too.

I got home and made a small dinner... a veggie wrap (carrot, avocado, and red pepper wrapped in a romaine lettuce leaf) and baked tofu coated in toasted coconut and with a tahini dressing (tahini, lemon juice, minced ginger, soy sauce and agave). Pretty good. I would definitely make the veggie wraps again and the tahini dipping sauce was amazing... the tofu was boring, need to find a new recipe.

Off to wash my workout clothes to prepare for the week.

Dinner!

Nuts and Fruit

This morning I felt well-rested. I got up and got a latte and had some hazelnuts, pistachios, dried apple, and freeze-dried apricots for breakfast. My body hurts from yesterdays spin class at FlyWheelSports... and I am doing it again today... and tomorrow!

On another note, it has been a few months since I went meat free. And I must admit it is easy. I am taking B12 and making sure my diet has enough protein. Interestingly exercise has become easier... correlation?

SNOOOW DAY

I am so excited that my school has a snow day! I actually got up and showered this morning for work. When I got out I saw my phone blinking, my co-worker Jenny texted me that we have no school.

So... now I am planning my day. I signed up at a new spin studio called FlyWheelSports. I am looking forward to it because each bike is hooked up to a computer that will log each ride you do. Then you can log online and see how fast you went and how many miles (plus a lot of other stuff).

I will fill you in later about how it went.

A very yummy latte that I trecked in the snow to get...

Snowy memory of Lenox...

Snurricane

What a day! It was snowing all day yesterday. Since the news said we would have hurricane strength winds and tons of snow the kids at school renamed the storm a "snurricane."

After a long day and then trudging home in the snow. I needed some comfort food. I decided to get a sandwich from Num Pang... roasted cauliflower with a side of roasted beets (both red and yellow).

Spin Addict

It is day three of my week long mid-winter break. I have off from work but not from grad school. So today I am planning to go to a 12:15 spin class at Crunch then coming back to walk the dogs, shower and head up to my class later this afternoon. Busy Day. Tomorrow I am starting a volunteer position at a high needs pre-school. 99% of the children that attend this school are below poverty level... I am excited and nervous.

This week my goal has been to eat foods that are either not processed or have only ingredients that I can read. So far so good. I have been eating lots of oatmeal and fresh fruits and vegetables. I also started taking B12.... it is exciting to start a healthier life style. I am excited to feel the benefits.

The Texter

I decided to go to Dougie's 5:45 spin class. He is one tough cookie! There was this girl who decided to text someone during class. He freaked out. He made us stay 10 extra minutes... and the funny part is he kept running over to "the texter" and kept making her work harder. Funny even though I had my sweatest workout yet. Because I am so exhausted I am just going to have a variation of a banana bread smoothie for dinner... a handful of walnuts, one banana, pumpkin pie spice (because I am out of cinnamon), agave, two large spoonfuls of 0% Fage and a splash of skim milk. Yumm. (Sorry for the bad photo).

I am So Sore

My session at Soul-Cycle made me so sore. I am generally not sore after spin classes anymore... but I am today! I just had breakfast, a latte and steel cut oats with cinnamon, agave and rasins, and now I am going to do some yoga in the apartment. Then I have a little work on my thesis I have to do. And then later today I am going to a 5:45 spin class at Crunch. I am going to be a spin addict this week!

I am adding B12 to my diet from the reccomendation of my dr. who says all vegetarians should have this supplement...

Too much cinnamon in my oats this morning... but they were still good...

Quinoa Pasta

For dinner last night I had, my new favorite, quinoa pasta and spinach with onions and feta. Since I am a vegetarian I try and eat foods that have protein to keep up my energy levels.

Soul-Cycle Rocks

Soul-Cycle Rocks! I finally had the time to check out this spin studio. One of my instructors that used to be at Crunch is now working at Soul-Cycle. Since she is one of my favorite instructors and I had to check out her class. I trecked up to West 72nd street and walked down the romantically lit hallway lined with lockers. I signed in and hopped on bike # 27. I have to say that the vibe of the people wasn't as enthusiastic as the Crunch people... but Ayana made it all worth while... I shouldn't forget to mention that during the class we use weights for upper body strength!

Before I went to this spin class I had an iced latte and steel cut oats with rasins, agave, cinnamon, and walnuts. After spin class I had a banana and a Justin's Almond butter. Now I am home and enjoying a grape Synergy. I am going to spend the rest of the afternoon doing work.

That's all folks.

Snow Day!

Well... again the weather people got it wrong. I was expecting 12-18 glorious inches of snow, what I got was a few inches of wet, slushy snow. On the upside they cancelled N.Y.C.'s public schools and that meant we had the day off too. In the morning I walked to Joe's. My camera made the winter scene look magical! I stayed indoors and did a little work, taking a break to make a banana bread loaf.

Pixie Tangerines and Red Tailed Hawks

What a day! I started my morning off right... with a bowl of steel cut oats, maple syrup, pumpkin seeds and pumpkin pie spices and a iced latte (of course). One of my students gave me a Pixie Tangerine... it was TINY. It was about one inch in diameter. Apparently they are only in season for one month... unfortunately that month is now over. For a mid-morning and afternoon snack I munched on some carrot chips.

For recess my students played on the schools roof top play area. I was enjoying the fresh air and sun when what do I see... THREE RED-TAILED HAWKS flying by. I was so excited and I got most of the children to watch them for a few minutes. They flew north and we watched them fly high and circle around. I think I was more excited then the kids!
